This is one of the artworks that I love. I think this painting combines eroticism and mystery. I do the same questions when I see it, why the two are bathing together? why one gets the nipple of the other? The painting is "Gabrielle d'Estrée and one of her sisters, " anonymous author of School of Fontainebleau. Gabrielle was mistress of King Henri IV. The picture belongs to the Louvre. Gabrielle is right in the picture, she and her sister are in the bath. The red curtains are open - as in a theater - so we can admire the two. The museum considers this one of the most unusual artworks of Western painting. It is said that the symbolism contained in this work is complex and full of puzzles, but the museum believes the painting may announce that Gabrielle was pregnant with a bastard son of the king. I really like the painting, even by its artificiality, by its riddles, by its eroticism contained in the act of getting the nipple, by the color of the skin and by the small and round breasts.
